Current Compliance Issues

Liquor Licencing

The main compliance issue for Victorian members seems to be the dramatic increase in renewal fees for Limited Licence holders for the serving of alcohol. Click here to read a background statement from the BBFAA Chairman, Geoffrey Chapman.

There is on-going dialogue between the BBFAA and the Department of Justice and all updates will be forwarded to members via the PILLOWTALK email newsletter.

The following is the current update:

On 23 March, David Pryor our Company Secretary and I met with the Victorian Minister for Consumer Affairs, Tony Robinson and his adviser.

Prior to the meeting, BBFAA had  made a written submission  to the Minister on behalf of the Victorian Division requesting that the recent rise in renewal fees for limited liquor licences be reconsidered.

We had a good meeting with the Minister and he was open to discussing the impact that the legislation has had on the B&B industry and our suggestions as to how licensing of the industry could be changed.

Some changes could be made to the Regulations, rather than to the Act, and the Minster has asked his staff to make recommendations that would relieve their impact on the industry.  Due to time constraints it is uncertain whether the Regulations can be changed during the current sitting of Parliament and, more specifically, before the Victorian State election which must be held before the end of this calendar year.

We emphasised to the Minister that BBFAA is committed to finding a resolution of the current situation and he  has agreed that we meet with his adviser again in six weeks.

We will keep you informed of our progress in this matter.

Geoff Chapman
BBFAA Chairperson
